I am a North Shore native - born and raised in Reading, Massachusetts. I've been a resident of Essex County for most of my life. I lived in Newburyport briefly in the late 1990's before moving to Salem, Massachusetts with my wife of twenty-five years, Debra. After almost 18 wonderful years in Salem, we were fortunate to find a beautiful home here in Newburyport in 2018. We have thoroughly enjoyed living here for the last 7 years. We love our Ward 6 neighborhoods and neighbors who greet us on our daily walks with our Portuguese Water Dog, Cider. If you don't find me walking with Cider, you'll likely find me working in my vegetable garden, or enjoying the amazing outdoor resources our city and region have to offer!
In 2022, I retired after being employed as a public servant for nearly three decades. I have had the good fortune to work at every level of government - federal, state, county, municipal, and school district. I understand how government works. I am well versed in state and municipal law and regulation. I have developed and administered budgets ranging from $30 to $120 million dollars. I have managed six school construction projects, all delivered on time and within budget. I have secured tens of millions of dollars in federal, state, and private grant funding. I have served as president, chair, and member of a number of organizations and committees. And I have won awards for distinguished service and commitment to communities, districts, and colleagues.
I share these experiences because I am proud of what I've accomplished and hope to gain your trust and demonstrate that I am worthy of your vote - you can be confident that I will be an effective and competent voice for Ward 6.
I am a hard-working and inclusive leader who strives to ensure that all voices are heard. I listen first - there's a reason why we have two ears and one mouth and we should use them in that proportion. I believe in transparency and informed decision making - community input is essential! I value lifelong learning - when answers are elusive, I seek out experts and do my research. I have learned that effective leadership requires courage and humility and I intend to bring a healthy dose of both to my role as Ward 6 Councillor.
